Owosso Community Players
The former Capitol Theatre opened in downtown Owosso, MI in the fall of 1926.  The theatre closed in the mid 1980’s and served briefly as a church until the spring of 1990.  With the assistance of the Lebowsky family, the Owosso Community Players purchased the building in 1992 for $120,000.

In that same year, Edward D. Francis, FAIA, as Principal in Charge, prepared a Master Plan for further development.  The plan was  implemented on phased basis, an existing structure was purchased allowing for a scene shop behind the upstage wall, and  new rigging installed in 2006.

Contracts were about to be awarded for a fire protection system when the historic theatre was hit by a disastrous fire on the night of February 13, 2007.

We are now consulting on protective enclosure actions, updating the Master Plan, and preparing construction documents for the reconstruction of the main stage theatre and the use of a recently gifted West Annex as a studio theatre.  RDG prepared and recently submitted Historic Preservation Certification Applications Part I & Part II for Federal designation and is currently preparing applications for the State.
